My name is Giuseppe Campisi and I am an acoustic and electric bass player, composer and arranger. I grew up in the beautiful Mediterranean island of Sicily, where I developed my passion for music from a young age, and I currently live in Barcelona.
During the course of the years I have earned a degree Magna Cum Laude in Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music as well as a master in Jazz Performance at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam; I have written for and performed with a wide variety of groups, ranging from small to large ensembles, and I’ve been working actively both as a sideman and as a leader of my own projects.
Throughout my career I’ve had the chance to perform in major festivals and venues, including Umbria Jazz, Umbria Jazz Winter, London Jazz Festival, Bimhuis, Amersfoort Jazz Festival, Grachtenfestival, Teatro Colón Bogotá, Catania Jazz, Bflat, International Festival du Luth à Tétouan, Flamenco Biënnale, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Festival de Jazz de Terrassa, L’Auditori Barcelona, Festival de Jazz de Sant Andreu and Voll-Damm Festival de Jazz de Barcelona, to name a few.
Among the others, I’ve performed and recorded in Europe and in the United States with artists like George Garzone, Dick Oatts, Perico Sambeat, Ben Van Gelder, Andrea Motis, Jasper Blom, Michael Moore, Lluís Vidal, Benjamin Herman, Harry Allen, Jorge Rossy, Marc Miralta and Kirk Lightsey.
I am happy to be involved in several projects and to play with musicians I admire deeply.
Besides my numerous collaborations as a sideman, I have recorded and published three albums under my own name: the last one of those, titled Like Splashing in the Ocean, has been published by Fresh Sound New Talent in 2023.
In addition, given my deep interest for my birthplace and its culture, I have been working on a project named About Sicily: the first EP, Terra Ca Nun Senti, has been published at the end of 2021.
Since 2015 I’ve been active with Fluid Collective, a project co-led with guitar player Alessio Pignorio and alto player Daniele Germani.
This ensemble has recorded two albums: In The Woods (Honolulu Records, 2015), featuring tenor and soprano player George Garzone, and The A’dam Chapter (self-produced, 2020), featuring alto player Dick Oatts and singer Sanne Huijbregts. A third album is in the making and will be published in 2024.
I proudly endorse Anastasio Fasanaro Handmade Guitars and Basses.
